Why is the Test Done?
Beta crosslaps is a protein which is released in the blood during bone resorption. It is a specific marker of degradation of type 1 mature collagen.
Elevated levels are seen in osteoporosis, osteopenia, hyperthyroidism & hyperparathyroidism, paget's disease .
This bone turnover marker is used to monitor patients with antiresorptive agents for osteoporosis & osteopenia.
How to prepare for the Test:
Overnight fasting (10-12 hours) is mandatory
